It’s no doubt that many musicians in the music scene influence each other. Some started pursuing a music career after listening to other names, and others got inspired by their favorite musicians while making a musical effort.

In some cases, another musician can have great importance in an artist’s life. One of the greatest names in the rock music scene, Phil Collins, is also among those, and he appreciated one of Bob Dylan‘s songs so much that he would pass it on to his kids.

Which Bob Dylan Song Did Phil Collins Want His Kids To Hear?Bob Dylan is not only one of the greatest songwriters of all time, but he has also been a prominent cultural figure throughout his music career. He released most of his internationally celebrated music work in the 1960s, and they became anthems for the civil rights and anti-war movements of that time.

Among these songs that have great importance in the 1960s, Bob Dylan’s ‘The Times They Are A-Changin” has a special place. It reflected a more politically charged Dylan, and he wrote this song to create an anthem of change. Since its release, ‘The Times They Are A-Changin” has been covered by numerous artists, including Phil Collins.

In a 2017 interview with BBC Radio 4’s Inheritance Tracks, Phil Collins revealed the songs that inspired him while he was young. He named Bob Dylan’s ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’ one of them. He stated that he would want this song to pass on to his kids because the lyrics are sincere and honest.

Moreover, Collins said that the change that took place back in those days was reflected in music, culture, America, and politics. He then added that one could even do an essay or thesis on this song, and it’s something everybody should listen to every six months or every general election.

In the interview with BBC Radio 4’s Inheritance Tracks, Phil Collins said the following:

“The track I would pass on is ‘The Times They Are A-Changin” by Bob Dylan. I was a bit late coming to Dylan, but The Beatles liked him. I bought this single, played an awful lot, and the lyrics are honest and real. ‘Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call / Don’t stand in the doorway, don’t block up the hall,’ because there is a change coming, and this spells it out.

Poetically, the situation of the time of the change that is was going on in music, culture, America, and politics. I pass this song to anybody that forgotten. I think you could almost do an essay or a thesis at school. I’m saying listen to this and then write down what you think. I would definitely pass it on to my kids, but it’s a song that I think everybody should hear every six months or certainly every general election.”
